A news article on Houston Rockets’ James Harden matching with Kobe Bryant’s 16-game 30-plus-points record streak by scoring 38 points against the Orlando Magic.
Houston Rockets’ James Harden matched with Kobe Bryant’s 16-game 30-plus-points record streak by scoring 38 points against the Orlando Magic last Sunday. Since the NBA and ABA merged in the 1976-77 season, Bryant holds the 30-point streak record. And Harden has a chance to surpass the basketball legend’s record if he scores more than 30 points again this Monday night versus the Memphis Grizzlies.
Harden’s 30-plus-point streak started last December 13 when he scored 50 points against the Los Angeles Lakers. Meanwhile, Bryant set his record during the 2002-03 season which means that the record has been untouched for more than a decade.
A fan made an infographic on the comparison of Harden’s and Bryant’s stats when both players reached their 16-game streak. Bryant has a slight advantage in the points-per-game, steals-per-game, and blocks-per-game average. On the other hand, Harden has a higher average on rebounds-per-game and assists-per-game.
If the Rockets star continues to bring his “A“ game and scores more than 30 points in their game against the Grizzlies, Harden will be the new player to hold the 30-plus-points record streak.
With Harden’s attempt of breaking records, the Rockets’ odds of winning games are high. On Bethard, Houston holds -270 odds, while Memphis has +195 odds of winning.
A record in which Harden passed Bryant is the progressive list of three-point leaders. The former Lakers star made 1,827 three-pointers all throughout his 20-year NBA career. Meanwhile, the Rockets point guard made eight threes last Friday against the Cleveland Cavaliers. This boosts Harden to the 13th spot and totals his three-pointer record to 1,834 surpassing Bryant and Chauncey Billups (1,830.)
The NBA tweeted a photo of Harden and Bryant side-by-side as they made the announcement. The post has the caption:
“The Beard moves past the Black Mamba on the all-time 3PM list.”
Alongside his historical three-pointers, Harden also became the first NBA player to score a 40-point triple-double in less than 30 minutes. With Harden’s current record of achievements this season, it will be a challenge to take his NBA MVP title.
